Panthers sleepwalk through first 35 minutes, last 5 isn't enough to avoid defeat

Your Milwaukee Panthers lost to Southern Mississippi Saturday afternoon in a game it should have won.

The Golden Eagles' Donovan Ivory scored 32 points and Milwaukee was outrebounded again (our frontline is almost non-existent outside of an emergent Faizon Fields). Kentrell Pullian did score 21 points and Fields impressed. Elijah Jameson (16pts, 3ast, 3stl) finally had a good shooting half. But the energy that arrived down 15 points with 5 minutes left arrived far too late.

This team needs to play 40 minutes of basketball or it'll be a long season of losing. To complicate matters, BJ Freeman (14pts, 3reb) has been battling through back spasms in the past week. His absence for any significant amount of time would be devastating.

The Panthers are now 3-4 on the season and have an upcoming road trip that could serve as a springboard or a doom loop. Next up is the first conference game of the season at Green Bay on Saturday night at the Resch Center.

Maybe our fortunes can begin to change after a much-needed game break.
