Milwaukee falls to Indiana State, Hubbard out for season

Not the result we all hoped for but the Hubbard injury makes today feel a lot worse

The Milwaukee Panthers lost a tough battle against the Indiana State Sycamores today at Panther Arena.

Both teams eventually pressed and exchanged several small advantages as the lead changed nearly a dozen times despite the Sycamores initially getting out to a sizeable early lead.

Jovanovich (16pts), Fields (16pts), and Elam (13pts) all scored in double figures and our rebounding was downright phenomenal (16 ORs, Fields with 8, D-Lo with 9 and Konneh with 8).

But the biggest news of the day didn't have to do with the play on the court but rather the player lacking from that action- Seth Hubbard.

Hubbard, Milwaukee's leading scorer so far this season with a 16.6ppg average, recently suffered a shoulder injury which has grown increasingly worse and will require immediate surgery.

Hubbard is out for the season. 😔

So, it is time for other Panthers to step up. We will now need much bigger contributions from our freshman and other players who don't always play a ton of minutes (as seen in today's game- the first half featured our points scored predominately by freshman). Someone or some couple of players will have to step up and attempt to replace Hubbard's shooting and wing defensive ability.

We may also have to change our style of play a bit to reflect the losses (of Lovelace and now Hubbard) and the best personnel we currently have available. Perhaps a lineup of Dorceus (PG), Aguillard (SG), Konneh (SF/Wing), Jovanovich (PF), Fields (PF/C)- would open up some strategic mismatches and serious scoring in the post?

I for one think Sekou Konneh needs to see more run. Dorceus, Elam and Dixon are doing decent so far but will need to ascend much higher if we are to salvage this season and still make a run for the Horizon League Championship.

Next up is South Dakota State at the Fiserv Forum this coming Friday at 4pm.

This season is sort of on the brink 🤷; it might go anywhere from here, folks.

go panthers.

press on. 🏆🏀
