Panthers demolish Luther, 96-40, in exhibition

Our Milwaukee Panthers started off the season right with a thumping of epic proportions applied to a massively overmatched DIII Luther College (Decorah, IA) team Wednesday night before the Brewers won it all.

There wasn't much coverage of the exhibition, but with a native son playing his first DI game- the Beloit Daily News was on it

It was quite the Panther attack against a largely defenseless Luther Norse team. Milwaukee jumped out to an early 15-point lead, doubling it to 30 and then as many as 60(!) before ultimately winning the exhibition in a walk, 96-40.

The breakout star of the game was West Allis native, Jake Hansen who shot an eye-popping 7-10 from the perimeter, leading all Panther scorers with 21. Amare Hereford added 19 points on 2-5 from 3pt and a pair of assists. Isaiah Dirceus handed out 5 assists, D-Lo scored 10 and grabbed 8 rebounds- the latter two of these Panthers looking primed and ready for this, their senior seasons.

We will be back at the K for a regular season game against DIII Ripon on Sunday, November 8th

Nate Malossa looks like a raw, faster-but-skinnier version of Jamichael Stillwell who should see a lot of minutes, especially against bigger opponents like the ones in the buy-game road gauntlet ahead of us.

Tre Norman appeared just like the poised, experienced senior leader many Panther fans expected. Johnny Lovelace Jr. played sparingly but looked very much like his pre-injury self; I think we may see JLJ compete for some serious minutes and provide another big upperclassman leadership boost to this stacked Milwaukee Panthers Basketball lineup.

This tune-up exhibition looked to be a time to get some newer and more inexperienced players some playing time that they might not see as much of during the season. Though after their torrent-like debuts, I don't know how you will keep Hereford and Hansen off the court.

Things are looking good so far. It's important to see some highlights (and spot the lowlights we need to fix ASAP) in the video and get the team some positive vibes before the virtually inevitable upcoming swoon of non-con P5 contests in November and December brings us a probable 4-5 losses- but you never know until they play the games, know?

Next up is the first official regular season contest in southern California against a B1G powerhouse- the USC Trojans. Talk about a turnabout!

Win or lose, we are hoping for the best and that this team can show what they are made of and what they are capable of this season. And what they are aiming to achieve by the end of this long season that ends only after Winter turns to Spring.

go panthers.
